About the Workshop

The Contrasts Photography Workshop will be an intensive weekend of learning the ins and outs of migrating your interest in photography from a hobby to a legitimate business. For those of you already in business, you'll learn how to take your business to the next level.

This unique workshop will highlight the different philosophies, business models and shooting styles of two premier studios in the four-state area to demonstrate two unique paths to success in the photographic industry.

Led by award-winning senior photographer Jessica Edwards and the crew of FX Studios you will see two competing styles in action including:

~ single photographer studio vs. a multi-photographer, staffed studio

~ specialized boutique vs. a full-service higher volume studio

~ natural light vs. off-camera lighting

~ college educated vs. college dropout

You will learn everything you need to know from attracting clients, designing sessions, scouting locations, working with and posing subjects, lighting and photographing sessions, editing images, and presenting them to clients in ways that is financially rewarding to you. You will also receive our Documents and Marketing Set that includes contracts, form letters, brochures, and other studio documents.

This workshop will be a no-holds-barred, open-hearted instruction of everything we’ve learned to make our businesses successful even during the recession. Bring your questions - we’ve got answers for you!

This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced photographers. We expect you to have a good working understanding of your camera and to grasp the basics of exposure and composition. During the shooting demonstrations we will be talking f-stops and shutter speeds so if you don’t know what those are this might not be the workshop for you.

We ask that you bring your own camera and lenses to the workshop. You should also bring your laptop and have Adobe Photoshop installed. We will be demonstrating portions of our workflow that involve Adobe Lightroom as well, but it is not required that you have it on your own system. If you do not have a laptop you may use one of the workstations at our studio. We will be demonstrating off-camera and studio lighting during the workshop. If you have a Pocket Wizard Transmitter we encourage you to bring it to speed up the time it takes for each shooter to use our lighting setups without having to pass transmitters around the group.

The workshop will last two full days (8+ hours each day), with dinner and drinks included! You will also receive FX Studio's Business Documents Kit, as well as Jessica Edwards' Facebook and Blog Marketing Kits (over $300 at regular price).

Cost

The weekend workshop is $1,000$600 (now on sale) for students or past mentor session clients of Be the Trend, $1,200$600 for individuals and $1,800$600 for a married couple.

A no-interest payment plan is available.

When

A complete schedule of the weekends activities will be provided approximately 2 weeks before the workshop begins, but here is a loose guide to what you can expect:

Friday, October 15, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. We will be hosting a meet-and-greet at FX Studios where the majority of the workshop will be held. It’s not a mandatory part of the class, but we hope you will join us for some snacks and drinks to give everyone a chance to meet and get the introductions out of the way. It will be a fun and social atmosphere - be prepared for a good time!

Saturday, October 16, 2010 Beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending when the lights go off

Bring your sleeping bags kids - this workshop will not be for the feint of heart. We are committed to answering everyones questions and want to make sure you get the most from your experience with us. We have no set time for ending on Saturday, so we could be up all night!

We will begin by discussing the different business models of the Instructors including the pros and cons of both. We will discuss marketing and booking clients, designing sessions, scouting for locations, posing, and lighting. There will be live demonstrations of senior, engagement, and wedding sessions and instruction on use of natural light and off-camera flash technique.

Sunday, October 17, 2010 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. The last day of the workshop will be geared towards photographing sessions in the studio, processing images taken during the weekend’s sessions, presenting and selling images to clients, image retouching, and workflow.
